2011 Educators’ Conference on Machining

Friday-Saturday, October 28-29, 2011
LoneStar College CyFair, Houston, Texas

The conference was a successful event with 80 participants from eight different states: 51 from academia and 29 from industry. Dr. Levy, President of LoneStar College, gave the welcoming speech and thanked the organizer for choosing LoneStar CyFair as the strategic location for the second annual HTEC Educators’ Conference in Texas.

The first day was filled with technical /educational presentations, machining demonstration using Sandvik advanced tooling, and 5-axis simultaneous machining. Ms. Jo Fey, Dean of LoneStar College, also attended the conference and was impressed with the machining demonstration. The long midday break provided opportunities for participants to discuss with industrial representatives at their tables, viewed the posters, extended networking. Door prizes were raffled after the delicious lunch.

The second day was focused on advanced CAD/CAM with 5-axis programming for selected participants. At the Advanced Manufacturing Center, Rex Perry of HFO Houston demonstrated how to set up necessary tools and then executed the program for machining a beautiful chess rook with HTEC logo and Texas map.

The conference success could not be achieved without support. Sincere appreciation is extended to LoneStar College, Haas Automation, HFO Houston, speakers, and sponsors.
